Default "LFG" Option for Friends List

Similar to "Away", except it says "LFG".

I only have one question here... why?

There are hundreds and thousands of different lfg messages and none of them fit in the aloted slot.

My problem with it is it doesn't give enough information.

lfg ok so your looking for a group but what for pvp, pve, farming or mission if so which mission and normal mode or hard mode.
I don't object to it as it marks your intent in the game I just don't see it as leading to anything very useful.

The most useful thing anyone can do when asking for aid in the game is exactly what they are intending to do.
Second to that is what kind of help they are willing to accept
Its basic GW 101 from the earliest days when players would say Monk wanted for xxxx or MM necro looking for group to xxxxx.

Good luck with the idea though perhaps if when the player was selected a message box popped up giving more info.

You could just reroll a new (pvp) character with the name; LF GvG/Vanq/DoA/AB and everyone that has you on their friendslist will see it.

I think what he means is an "LFG" status next to your name in guild / friends list. This way all of your friends / guildees can see that you're looking for a group when they pop up said list. ( And considering I press N, and G every other 4 seconds that sounds kinda useful) However I would want to add an option to display what you're LFG'ing for. So say you're Looking for an FoW group:

"<your name> (LFG: Fissure Of Woe)" Then maybe a "Join" button so you could map to FoW and join said persons group from the guild or friends window?

I like it.

/signed

But I'm just about 100% sure this won't ever get implemented.

this is something id never use myself - rarely do i pug and if i do need help then ive got guildies/wife/friends who will join in.
Another problem is with having the messages - contacts list has a limited amount of names and many ppl have more ignore names than friends.Isnt it easier just to pm friends and see about arranging stuff and times.

Rather than this, I would rather the friends list refreshed with everyone's instance that they're in. For example I would know if my friends are Idle, in an explorable i.e. busy, or standing in an outpost waiting to do something.

I'd rather they make the away/online/offline thingy a text input field instead.
So instead of "away" I could type " On the phone" or "In the shower" or whatever.

This would not be significantly useful. If you want your friends to group with you, you can PM them and ask them directly to join with you.

Without being able to put a message for what you are looking group for, they would have to whisper you to ask, when it's easier just to ask them.

Considering there's multiple chat channels (trade, local, guild, alliance, team, whisper, etc.) How hard would it be to implement a "friends" chat? I'd rather just have that. I guess it might not be so simple given that I could put someone on my friend list without them reciprocating. Still, I think this would be more useful.

Typically the first thing I do when I sign on is hit alliance chat and say hello, what's up?, anybody doing anything fun?, want to get together and do X?

I meant for the friends list, not with party search. I'm assuming people on your friends list already know what you do in GW. I think having a "LFG" status and being able to see who on your friends list is bored and available to do something would be nice.

You guys have some strange counter-arguements too. It seems you don't have many friends online at the same time or maybe your friends dont do much anyway so they are always available for anything anyway? I dunno. I have the opposite problem. Lots of people on FL and many of them are always doing something.

Because what you're talking about is giving every player a private chat channel that they can invite people to. Then have the ability for one person to have access to multiple chat channels. That just isn't practical.

I might have 10 people on a friends list and those friends each have 10 other friends and we all need separate chat channels to talk in.

Not to mention I have people on friends list who are either in my Alliance, I'm trading with, I've met somewhere etc. I don't what all of these put into one chat channel as I talk to them about different things and it is highly unlikely that they would want to talk to each other.

---

What would be more useful than "LFG" is just showing where you are in the world. If you're in an outpost/explorable/Guild Hall. Embark Beach will fix the rest.

THAT would be a nice feature. Every time I do join somebody in alliance/guild/whatever, one of the first things somebody says is "where r u?"

It would be a nice option, really. Turn it on when you want to be quickly located, etc. Turn it off if you want to play hide and seek.

The problem is the Embark Beach will just help you for missions. It will not necessarily connect to Elite areas, WiK/WoC content, VQ of explorables, and PvP.

I personally love the idea of a lfg status on your friends list. Other than randomly going on Alliance chat and "what are you guys up to?" you can add a quick status note. I like "LFG", "In mission", "in PvP" as three possible notifiers. You could also add a location tag, with the option of turning it on and off (in case you don't care to use this option)

Assuming you are like most people and only add people you like to play with to your friends lists (what's with all these "I don't like to PUG" posts. I imagine their friend lists are almost empty then). In that case it would be nice to know if your friend the bada$$ monk is looking for things to do.
Furthermore the "in mission" and "in pvp" will tell friends/guildies exactly what you are doing so they don't interrupt you.
Ever have someone start a meaningful conversation with you when you are in JQ? Then you are stuck with A. being rude, B. ignoring your buddy and hurting their feelings, or C. stopping to chat and get labeled a leecher.

Why just missions? Why wouldn't you be able to use Embark Beach to get a group together then go to an outpost and do any of those other things you mention?

also @chuckles79 i'm sure you can zone close enough to do any of the stuff you mention. maybe just 1 or 2 extra hops but finding people is well worth it.

Thunderhead Keep --> run to grotto etc.......

A better idea might be that when you open the party window, there is a slot there called friends. When pressing on it, you can see everybody from your friendlist that need a group, and what they are LFG for. You can see other people's LFG's too if your friend is in that party. When you doubleclick or press accept you get teleported to their location and party.
